On Monday 9 September we held a Secretary Club at Woodstock Residential Care Home, after the idea was given to us by a family member.
Some traditional typewriters and an old phone were brought in for our residents to use and we made an office in our dining room. We also took them around to our lounges so everybody could see them.
These old-fashioned machines were a real ‘blast from the past‘ and gave our residents a lot of fun, talking about how or when they used them when they were younger.
One of our ladies said that she used to use these machines in the hospital she worked at. She found it very interesting to see them again, and they brought back many fun memories. Another resident Wendy commented that she and her mum had these at home.
We sat in our dining area talking about secretarial duties and how much these have changed with the times. We also discussed how much typewriters have advanced; we didn’t think we could find where to turn one on now – that made us all laugh!
