Australia Day fancy dress and rain sticks at Woodstock Residential Care Home

Our Woodstock Residential Care Home residents celebrated Australia Day (26 January) last week.

We held a themed photoshoot where they got to wear a fun Australian hat and have a cuddle with Joey the kangaroo and Simon the snake! This all brought a smile to everyone’s faces and sparked conversations about different holidays and native animals.

In the afternoon we made rain sticks using tubes, paint and glitter. We looked at pictures of Aboriginal rain sticks for inspiration and used different techniques to paint patterns and give different textures. Everyone got so creative and it was very therapeutic.

We put rice and dried lentils in the tubes and went around our Home making soothing and relaxing rain noises.

We look forward to coming up with new ways to celebrate Australia Day each year.
