Raybell Charters Barge and Woodstock Residential Care Home

Woodstock Residential Care Home residents enjoyed a workshop about Raybell Barge on Friday 12 August – an historic barge that is being restored in Milton Creek, Sittingbourne.

This barge is 100 years old and used to carry sugar and grain from Essex to Sittingbourne. The presentation included clips of footage from the barge from Milton Creek and people’s memories of the barge.

We were shown different objects from the barge and we learnt how to tie knots. Some of our residents thought it was lovely to see pictures from Milton Creek and reminisce on old memories of living in Sittingbourne.

This project is being funded by the National Lottery and the presentation was a lovely way for our residents to feel part of the local community – feeling connected and in touch with what is happening around them.

We had lots of fun in this interactive presentation as we sang and played instruments along to sea shanty songs.
