VE Day garden party at Woodstock Residential Care Home

We celebrated VE Day with our residents in style with a garden party at Woodstock Residential Care Home.

We decorated outside with Union Jack flags and enjoyed a traditional fish and chip lunch in our garden, which went down very well with everyone!

Our Cook Lyn made some beautiful cakes from a wartime recipe which used condensed milk rather than sugar.

It was lovely listening and reminiscing to old time music and we tuned in to Winston Churchill’s speech at 3pm, raising a glass of bubbly to everyone who served in the war.

The day brought back lots of memories and it was wonderful to be able to talk and share these together. So many people gave their lives for this country and our staff at Woodstock wanted to let them know how proud we are of them today.

We had a fabulous day and it was lovely to bring everyone together in the sunshine.

Our staff dressed up in wartime costumes or Union Jack hats and sang songs using our karaoke machine with our residents, including ‘We’ll meet again’ by Vera Lynn – see our video below!
