Woodstock Residential Care Home residents enjoy a trip to the Oasis Dementia Cafe

Last week our residents from Woodstock Residential Care Home enjoyed an outing to the Oasis Dementia Café, which is run by The Oasis Academy.

Since April 2013 the Academy has hosted 7 themed Cafés, which have been well attended by residents of local care homes, members of Age UK and local residents in the community. A team of 6th formers have volunteered their time and put in a lot of heart and effort into producing a number of the themed café events, whilst also studying for their A-Levels.

The Dementia Cafés have been a massive success, which can be measured by the numbers of attendees who attend and return again. Local charities and the Alzheimer’s Society are also invited and attend to give any information that may be needed.

All the children worked very hard to make sure that everyone was made to feel welcome. They served us with tea and cake and put on a beautiful show when all the children performed songs. Our residents also got to meet the Mayor, as well as Sheppey Fire Brigade.

The Café is such a great way to bring young and old together and we were delighted to be part of the day.
