Friendly Shetland pony visits Woodstock Residential Care Home residents

On Saturday 28 October we were very lucky to have a visit from a wonderful Shetland pony called ‘Dude’ who came to see our residents with his owners Dee and Carmen.

Everyone’s faces lit up when they saw the horse box arrive and they figured out what little friend was coming to visit them!

Dude was dressed for Halloween with a big spider and cobweb on his back and braided through his mane.

Everyone was able to have a stroke and a cuddle with Dude and there were so many smiles on faces as he walked around our Home, making special visits to our bedrooms too. Our residents were able to brush Dude and feed him his favourite treats of apples and carrots.

We learnt about Shetland ponies and all the miniature horses that Dee looks after. Dee and Carmen told us that Dude was 16 years old and shared stories of Dude and his three friends at home which was very interesting to hear.

We all enjoyed sharing our experiences and memories of horses; for one of our residents, who is a former show jumper, it was amazing to be able to bring Dude in for a friendly visit.

Everyone at Woodstock loves spending time with animals and we all love a cuddle with a furry friend.

We can’t wait to see Dude again!
