Gardening Club at Woodstock Residential Care Home

Last week we all got together to show off our green fingers and thumbs at Woodstock Residential Care Home during our Gardening Club.

Our residents, relatives and staff all worked well as a team to de-weed and pot and water plants. We all enjoyed chatting about our favourite plants and learning from each other. Some of our residents are very keen gardeners and were happy to get stuck in using small spades to turn up soil in the pots to create a hole big enough to plant flowers. We weren’t afraid to get our hands messy!

One of our residents named each plant and flower with confidence just by looking at their leaves. They really showed us that they had lots of knowledge about gardening and educated others about how to tell the difference. We had lots of help from our relatives too who brought tools and lots of energy to help with everything – we really couldn’t have done it without them.

One of our relatives over the last few months has been helping us grow our own fruits and vegetables and has been on hand with all the knowledge on how to manage and look after them. So far we have successfully grown strawberries and tomatoes.

Our residents also cleaned tables and chairs and dusted a few cobwebs to give our garden a lovely sprucing.

We then enjoyed relaxing in the summer sunshine, for the day of Summer Solstice, with a lovely cup of tea and a delicious selection of cakes. After refuelling, everyone enjoyed getting stuck back in with gardening!

Thank you everyone for your help, we really appreciated it – you are all stars!
